The Sagacious Standard.
The Sagacious Standard defines how SBC plans, manages and delivers its work. It applies across every project function, stage and working condition.
01 — THE STANDARD
Four responsibilities carried through every stage.
Protection is part of every method
No programme, target or commercial advantage justifies avoidable harm. Safety, dignity and wellbeing shape how work is planned and led.
Responsibility reaches beyond the site
Material use, waste, logistics, neighbouring properties, public infrastructure and future asset performance are considered within project decisions.
Outcomes are owned
Responsibility continues beyond delegation or reporting. It remains until the requirement is addressed, verified and recorded.
Review the project basis
The process begins with a structured review of the available drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, contractual requirements, programme obligations, approval conditions and client priorities. Discrepancies, missing information, coordination matters and outstanding decisions are identified and recorded.
Establish the execution methodology
A thorough feasibility study is conducted and the execution requirements of each major activity are assessed before work begins. The selected approach is developed into the required method statements, work plans, responsibilities and control points.
Develop the project programme
A detailed project programme connects technical submissions, consultant approvals, authority activities, procurement, mobilisation, construction, inspection, testing, commissioning and handover.
Control drawings and revisions
A controlled drawing and document register records the status and current revision of the information required for construction. Only current approved information is issued for construction.
Plan decisions and materials
Material requirements are coordinated with the project programme, approval process, supplier lead times, delivery requirements and available storage.
Execute and control the work
Site activities are carried out against the current approved information, accepted methodology, project programme and established quality requirements.
Complete and hand over
Completion activities are incorporated into the project programme rather than deferred until the end of construction.
03 — QUALITY BY DESIGN
Clear visibility throughout.
Quality by Design carries agreed requirements through material planning, technical approvals, procurement, workmanship, inspection and testing. Samples, finish boards and mock-ups establish the expected standard before wider repetition.
Structured reporting
Weekly progress updates and consolidated monthly project reports.
Visual progress records
Regular, dated site photographs providing a clear record of work completed.
Decision look-ahead
Upcoming selections, approvals and information requirements identified sufficiently in advance.
Action tracking
Decisions, responsibilities, deadlines and unresolved matters recorded and followed through.
04 — TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT & KAIZEN
Learning carried into the work that follows.
We place responsibility for quality with every function capable of influencing the completed work. Corrective action remains open until implementation has been verified.
Capture the finding
Record evidence while it can still influence work that follows.
Determine the cause
Establish the cause, extent and possible effect on comparable work.
Improve the control
Revise and communicate the relevant detail, method, sequence, briefing or inspection point.
Verify and standardise
Confirm the adjustment through subsequent work and adopt it as the project standard.
05 — HEALTH, SAFETY & WELLBEING
Protecting people is fundamental to how SBC builds.
Risks are anticipated, work is planned and responsibilities are understood before activity begins. Higher-risk operations—including lifting, excavation, work at height, temporary works, hot work, electrical activities and vehicle movement—are addressed through approved methods, risk assessments, permits, competent supervision, suitable equipment and emergency arrangements.
Requirements apply to employees, subcontractors, suppliers and visitors. Everyone is expected and empowered to raise a concern or stop an activity when conditions are unsafe or unclear.
06 — RESPONSIBLE CONSTRUCTION
Responsibility carried through the complete project.
Responsible construction is carried through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover. Material quantities, deliveries, storage and handling are planned to reduce surplus, damage and repeated movement.
Site logistics, dust, noise, runoff, debris, road cleanliness and hazardous materials are managed with regard for neighbouring properties, public infrastructure and the wider community.
